    He served in the Air National Guard where he earned his pilot license. He served in the Nebraska Legislature from 1969-1993. Married in 1950. Due to his promoting of renewable fuel he earned the title of "Father of Ethanol". He was widely respected as both a statesman and orator. His contributions to agriculture, healthcare and public service were far reaching.
